Nitrogen in air conditioners is essential to prevent atmospheric oxygen from creating oxides in the system's coils. Oxides can damage the air conditioner's compressor until the system stops working.

Nitrogen replaces oxygen in the air entrapped in the system, preventing the copper piping from oxidating. It furthermore drives out moisture, preventing any metal parts of the system from corrosion.

A large volume of nitrogen pressurises the coils and AC lines and checks for leakage before sealing an HVAC system. Nitrogen's inertness and easy availability are the grounds to use it for this purpose

Purging HVAC system lines with nitrogen equipment is a necessary step before the installation of a new aircon system.
