Choose Your Copper Pipe
Select the right form and size for your installation below — all pipe is refrigeration-grade, dehydrated and capped, available from UK stock with fast trade delivery.
-
Straight lengths — site installs and longer runs
Pre-cut lengths for clean, professional installations. Easier to handle on commercial jobs and multi-unit systems where pipe runs are planned in advance. -
Coils — flexibility and faster installs
Continuous coil for flexible routing around obstacles. Ideal for domestic split system installs where pipe needs to follow walls, ceilings and risers.
Pipe Size Guide
AC copper pipe is sized by OD (outside diameter). Match pipe size to your system’s manufacturer specification — common sizes by application:
- 1/4" (6.35mm) — liquid line on most domestic split systems
- 3/8" (9.52mm) — liquid line on larger domestic and light commercial systems
- 1/2" (12.7mm) — suction line on smaller domestic systems
- 5/8" (15.88mm) — suction line on most domestic split systems (most common)
- 3/4" (19.05mm) — suction line on larger domestic and light commercial systems
- 7/8" (22.22mm) and above — commercial, VRF/VRV and multi-unit systems
Always confirm liquid and suction line sizes against the indoor and outdoor unit manufacturer specifications before ordering.
Installation Workflow
Copper pipe is the foundation of every AC installation. The correct sequence ensures a leak-free, compliant system:
- 1. Cut — use a pipe cutter for a clean, square cut with no swarf
- 2. Deburr — remove internal burrs to prevent refrigerant flow restriction
- 3. Flare or swage — prepare pipe ends using a flaring or swaging tool for leak-free connections
- 4. Connect — fit fittings and connectors and torque to manufacturer specification
- 5. Support — clip pipework at regular intervals using pipe clips and hangers
- 6. Pressure test — test with nitrogen using manifold gauges before insulating
- 7. Insulate — apply Class O pipe insulation, seal all joints with tape and adhesive
Part of Every AC Installation
- Pipe Insulation — K-FLEX and Armaflex insulation for all pipe sizes
- Fittings & Connectors — flare fittings, solder fittings and compression connectors
- Pipe Supports & Fixings — clips and hangers for securing pipework
- Cutting Tools — pipe cutters and deburring tools
- Swaging & Flaring Tools — for preparing pipe ends
- Gauges & Manifolds — for pressure testing and commissioning
