Brazing Rods & Silver Solder for Copper Pipe & HVAC
Silver solder brazing rods and general-purpose brazing rods for copper pipe jointing in air conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, and industrial installations. Lawton flux-coated and bare silver solder rods in a full range of silver content from AG0.2% to AG56%. Same-day dispatch from UK stock.
Choosing the Right Silver Content
Silver content determines the melting temperature, flow characteristics, and joint strength of the brazing alloy. Higher silver content generally means lower melting temperature and better flow — but higher cost per rod.
AG0.2% (S2) — low silver content for general industrial brazing, where cost is the primary consideration. The Javac S2 1kg pack is the trade standard for AC and refrigeration copper pipe brazing on non-critical joints.
AG2% – AG5% — entry-level silver solder for general copper and brass brazing in plumbing and HVAC. Suitable for most standard pipe joints.
AG15% – AG30% — mid-range silver content for improved flow and joint quality on copper refrigerant pipework. Recommended for AC and refrigeration installations where joint integrity is critical.
AG40% – AG56% — high silver content for demanding applications requiring excellent flow, low melting temperature, and maximum joint strength. AG56% flux-coated rods are the premium choice for tight-clearance refrigerant joints and stainless steel brazing.
Flux-Coated vs Bare Rods
Flux-coated rods (AG56%) have flux applied to the rod surface — no separate flux paste required for most applications. Bare rods require separate brazing flux applied to the joint before heating. Always use the correct flux for the alloy and base metal combination.
