Frequently asked questions

For most domestic and light commercial split systems, a 2-stage vacuum pump with a capacity of 42 to 71 litres per minute (1.5 to 2.5 CFM) is sufficient. Larger commercial systems may require a higher capacity pump. Always evacuate to 500 microns or below before charging.

A two-stage vacuum pump achieves a deeper vacuum than a single stage pump. Two-stage pumps are industry standard and strongly recommended for all refrigerant work, particularly with R32 and R410A systems, to ensure complete moisture removal before charging.

Always use equipment specifically approved by the manufacturer for use with A2L refrigerants such as R32. Check the manufacturer specification to confirm compatibility before use. Leading brands in our range are suitable for use with R32, R410A, and R1234yf systems.

Use a digital micron gauge connected to the system to monitor vacuum level. The system should reach and hold 500 microns or below. After isolating the pump, the vacuum should remain stable — a rising level indicates moisture or a leak that must be resolved before charging.

Vacuum pump oil should be changed after every use or at a minimum every 20 to 30 hours of operation. Contaminated oil significantly reduces pump performance and ultimate vacuum depth. Always use oil specified by the pump manufacturer.
