What Is AC Trunking Used For?

Trunking protects refrigerant pipework, electrical cables, and condensate drain lines on external and internal AC installations. Standard AC trunking is sized to accommodate twin refrigerant pipes plus drain hose and signal cable in a single channel — keeping installations neat, protected, and compliant with manufacturer requirements.

Inaba Denko Slimduct is the contractor-preferred system for residential and light commercial split system installations. Available in standard white with a full accessory range including bends, joints, end caps, and wall entry fittings. Larger commercial profiles suit multi-split and VRF/VRV pipework runs where greater capacity is required.

What size trunking do I need for air conditioning pipework?

The most common sizes for domestic split system installations are 60x60mm and 75x75mm, which accommodate both refrigerant pipes and electrical cables in a single run. Larger cassette or multi-split systems may require 100x60mm or wider trunking. Always check pipe and cable diameters before selecting a size.

Can refrigerant pipes and electrical cables run in the same trunking?

Yes, in most domestic AC installations refrigerant pipes, condensate hose, and electrical cables are run together in the same trunking. Ensure the trunking is sized correctly to avoid compression of insulation on the refrigerant pipes, which would reduce thermal performance.

What is the difference between PVC and aluminium trunking?

PVC trunking is the standard choice for most domestic and light commercial AC installations — it is lightweight, easy to cut, and available in white to match interior finishes. Aluminium trunking offers a more premium finish and greater durability for exposed or high-specification installations.

Can trunking be used outdoors?

Standard white PVC trunking is not UV-stabilised and will degrade in direct sunlight over time. For external installations, use UV-resistant grey PVC trunking or aluminium trunking rated for outdoor use. Ensure all joints are sealed against water ingress.
