When Do You Need to Change Vacuum Pump Oil?

Vacuum pump oil should be changed regularly to maintain performance. Under normal use, oil should be replaced every 10–15 hours of operation, or immediately when it becomes cloudy or contaminated with moisture. Milky or discoloured oil is a sign of moisture ingress and will reduce vacuum depth if not changed.

Oil Change Procedure

1. Drain oil when pump is warm
2. Place pump on a level surface with a drain pan under the drain valve
3. Open drain valve and oil fill valve; let oil drain fully to remove acid traces
4. Flush by pouring a small amount of fresh oil through the fill port
5. Close drain valve and fill to the sight glass mark
6. Re-install oil fill cap, cap all intake ports and run pump for two minutes
7. Stop pump and confirm oil is at the correct level on the sight glass
