Frequently asked questions

A manifold gauge set is used to measure refrigerant pressure on both the high and low sides of an air conditioning or refrigeration system. It is an essential tool for system commissioning, fault diagnosis, refrigerant charging, and evacuation.

A 2-way manifold has a high and low pressure gauge with a centre port for connecting a vacuum pump or refrigerant cylinder. A 4-way manifold adds a second centre port, allowing simultaneous connection of a vacuum pump and refrigerant cylinder without disconnecting hoses — preferred for professional use.

Digital manifold gauges offer greater accuracy, automatic superheat and subcooling calculations, data logging, and refrigerant library support. Analogue gauges are simpler and more robust for general pressure checks. For R32 and R1234yf systems, a digital manifold with the correct refrigerant profiles is strongly recommended.

Always check the refrigerant compatibility of your manifold set before use. Most modern digital manifolds support R32, R410A, R22, R134a, and R1234yf. Using incorrect hoses or manifolds with incompatible refrigerants can be dangerous and is not permitted under F-Gas regulations.

R32 is mildly flammable (A2L classification) and requires tools and hoses rated for use with flammable refrigerants. Always use an R32-compatible manifold set and ensure hoses are rated to the correct pressure and material specification for R32 work.
